Thrupp Canal Cruising Club was formed from the ideas of a small number of local boat owners in the early 1980s. It now has over 100 members and manages the moorings between The Jolly Boatman and Shipton bridge on behalf of The Canal & River Trust.
TCCC has its own maintenance wharf for Members’ use and supplies diesel ‘at cost’ to the Members’ boats. An area between The Wide and the Cherwell is used as a Members only car park. It has installed power and water points alongside its moorings and now the majority of Members who have permanent moorings at Thrupp have access to an electrical connection.
TCCC Members take part in working parties twice yearly to help maintain the moorings by carrying out repairs, cleaning and tidying the area and helping to plant out the flower tubs and beds which help to make the canalside area in Thrupp attractive for visitors and residents alike.
The Club also holds a number of Social Events during the year – these range from informal skittles evenings, talks and films to Club Cruises and, of course, the Annual Dinner where TCCC’s prized John Stephenson Award is presented to the Club’s best travelled Member.
Each year TCCC Members choose a charity to support and funds raised at Club events and from the charity book stall at the service wharf go to the Club’s nominated charity. More details can be found here on our Charity Page
The Club is a member of the Association of Waterways Cruising Clubs and a corporate member of the Inland Waterways Association.
